A Good Turn!

2nd Easthampstead Cubs turned out in the wet to do a good turn for their local community.
Cubs and leaders grabbed litter from around the Great Holland shops and Health Centreto help keep their Cub promise and look after the environment.  The Cubs said they had a great time!  Well done to them all.

Sixers Weekend 2008

25 Sixers from 9th Bracknell (Merlins), 3rd Sandhurst, 1st Owlsmoor and 1st St. Sebastian's spent the weekend at Polyapes brushing up on their teamwork skills and learning one or two new things along the way.  The highlight of the weekend was probably lighting fires and cooking corned beef hash.  It always tastes much better than it looks!  The leaders were looking for seconds but the Cubs got there first.  Cubs and leaders took part in a Sports Relief mile around the campsite, although some of us had to walk one or two of the five laps.  We enjoyed a splendid roast pork with all the trimmings meal on Saturday evening.  On Sunday morning the Cubs delivered their own Cubs Own and then had to plan and make a model of their ideal camp site. The weekend finished with sixers planning a programme to take back to their own Packs and then being awarded certificates and Polyapes woggles before the final Grand Howl.

Thanks to all the Cubs who made the weekend worthwhile, and to the leaders who gave up much time and sleep!

3rd Sandhurst Eagles Winter Camp 2008

At the start of  February half term 3rd Sandhurst Eagles Cubs gathered at their HQ for a weekend Winter Camp - and wow did the weather turn cold!  Undeterred by the cold the Cubs cooked a meal on wood fires and ate it outdoors.  They worked hard learning map and compass skills culminating in a local hike.

It was not all work there was plenty of fun. They played hard at hockey, bingo and jenga,  They even managed to turn themselves into Pirates for a themed evening with a Banquet and Campfire.  Eventually 13 cubs and 6 adults went home having had a great time but thoroughly worn out!

Chief Scouts Silver Award Presentations

On Saturday 2nd February 19 Cubs from South Berks joined Cubs from our neighbouring District of South East Berks to be presented with certificates and special necker slides acknowledging their achievement in gaining the highest award in Cub Scouts - the Chief Scouts Silver Award.  This involves a considerable amount of effort and committment including outdoor activities, awareness of the community and service to others.  Many of the Cubs had also achieved a number of activity badges to support this award. The Cubs came from 1st Easthampstead, 9th Bracknell (Falcons), 3rd Sandhurst, 1st Owlsmoor and 1st St. Sebastians. Parents, family, leaders and friends were there to support them. After the presentations the Cubs enjoyed games and refreshments.
Well done to all!

Please wait for the slide show to load. More photo's added 21/1

A Join-in-a-District event competition has been running since November.  To qualify Cubs had to attend the Night Hike, Chess competition, Campfire and the Backwoods afternoon. Each attendance gained them a ticket for the draw. 242 tickets went into the draw,

The prize, of a Lego Technic kit, went to Ben Hutton, 1st St. Sebs.     Ben had been to at least 3 events.  Well done Ben and I know he enjoyed all the events too!

Christmas Cub Campfire

Over 120 people including 83 cubs, scouts and beavers attended the annual South Berkshire Cubs Christmas camp fire at 1st Crowthorne Scout headquarters on Monday night,

Despite recent wet and windy weather it was a clear starlit night and everyone joined in the singing of traditional camp fire songs such as 'Camp Fires Burning' and 'Alice the Camel'. 2nd Easthampstead Cubs sang there own cub version of the 12 Days of Christmas much to the hilarity of the audience.

The Camp fire was rounded off with special thanks to Conan Fryer, District Commissioner, for his work with the cub section in the last year. The final song was 'We wish you a Merry Xmas' which was followed by hotdog's and hot chocolate.

A great night enjoyed by all, roll on next year for another action packed year of Cub Scouting!

District Night Hike

If you went down to the woods on Friday night (16 November) you would have been in for a surprise.

By kind permission of The Crown Estate over 200 Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders and parents took part in the annual South Berkshire District night hike on Friday

Cubs and Scouts from Sandhurst, Crowthorne and Bracknell hiked around Swinley Forest collecting clues at various bases hidden deep in the woods. On their return to the Start/Finish at the Lookout they then had to re-shuffle the clues to answer a question relating to Scouting's 100 year Anniversary.

The hike was rounded off with a cup of hot soup a hotdog before heading home to a nice warm bed.

Mini Rafts

3rd Sandhurst Cubs created all manner of craft in their mini raft
building challenge.  The winning team are pictured trying to scare the
opposition by pulling scary faces!  All the rafts floated down the
stream in the Sandhurst Recreation Ground, with Shere Khan acting as
launch master and Goof as chief raft catcher!  Good time had by all.

Berkshire County Cub Cooking Competition

Here are ( below ) 3 Cub Scouts from South Berkshire who won the first County Cub Scouts Cooking Competition today (19th November). Runners up were a team representing Slough District. These were two of the Districts who took part in a close competition held at 1st Woosehill’s headquarters in Wokingham. The cooking was judged by former Berkshire Cub Scout Ashley Willitt now a chef for Harts Restaurant in Nottingham. Cub teams all received the same basket of food and had no prior warning of what they were to cook. Each team was observed by a leader to ensure safety. Judging by the number of Cubs who came up to the Assistant County Commissioner afterwards, all had enjoyed themselves!

Well done to you all
