Beaver Hike

October 16th saw District Beavers descend on The Lookout in Bracknell for the annual district hike.

The Beavers had to walk a set route and find bases along the way to complete the challenge and gain a hikes away badge. Despite only having 25 Beavers from 3 groups, plus assorted parents and siblings it was a fun way to spend a sunny Sunday morning.

Beavers Pirate Sleepover  9th /10th July 2011

4 groups from the district brought along 28 Beavers to Earleywod camp site to take part in the first sleepover with Beavers sleeping out in tents.
The theme was pirates and they climbed rigging, walked the plank and crossed crocodile infested swamps as well as making pirate hats and painting their pirate ship ready for the sea battle on Sunday.
There were many dirty pirate faces, some due to the face painting and some was just dirt. There were also a lot of tattoos and scars being shown off.
After taking part in the activities during the day we had a camp fire sing song led by David Fletcher who managed to theme many of the songs (and also taught the beavers a rude song about farting)
A wide game and reflective trail followed the camp fire just to make sure they were nice and tired before bed.
After the initial excitement and many trips to the loo they finally settled down and most of the leaders followed very quickly !
Sunday morning started about 6.00 although some managed a bit longer.
After breakfast there was a scouts own led by Christina (2nd Easthampstead) about trust.
The usual tasks of dismantling the camp took place while the Beavers did a litter pick and had the sea battle (water balloon fight).
There was also time for a tracking session before lunch and once that was cleared away we presented certificate and booty bags before parents came to collect some very tired beavers.
Thanks to all the leaders and helpers who came along to help. I think everyone slept very well that night!

Beaver Activity Day  8th May 2011

After a long dry spell the weather broke at the end of the week and we were all holding our breath for a dry activity day and we weren’t disappointed.

62 Beavers along with assorted leaders and helpers descended on Earleywood camp site for a day of fun.

There were many bases to try such as crafts, fire lighting, blindfold string trail and of course, the ever popular crate stacking.

The fire lighting proved popular as well which explains why they all went home smelling very smoky.

Lunch time gave us a chance to have a breather and a chat before we set off again.

The day was finished by a camp fire sing song led by Peter our recent acting DC and assisted by Des from 2nd Sandhurst. Just remember to check behind you for cameras next time Des!

Many thanks to all the leaders and helpers who gave up their Sunday to give all the Beavers a fun day out.

Bronze Chief Scout Award

One Beaver from 2nd Crowthorne and three from 9th Bracknell Kingfisher Colony have received their Chief Scout Bronze Award, all these Beavers have worked very hard to gain their Award as they have to complete six Challenges which include friendship, creative, fitness, global, promise and outdoor challenges.

The Chief Scout Bronze Award is the highest award in the Beaver Scout section and the badge is worn on the Cub Scout uniform when they move up, being replaced by the Chief Scout Silver Award when they complete it in Cubs.

Well done Beavers

Christmas Bowling

There was a bit of a surprise in store for anyone that visited the Hollywood Bowl in Bracknell just before Christmas, 2nd Crowthorne and 9th Bracknell both had the idea of a bowling session for their Beavers, 38 in all.

There were many styles of bowling going on, from the full twist to the through the legs approach with others opting to use the metal guide, I don’t think anyone quite managed to follow the ball down the lane. They were all fed although there was some confusion with the orders and all had a great time.

One of the 2nd Crowthorne Beavers had just completed his Bronze Chief Scout Award and was lucky enough to have his badge presented to him by Pauline, ADC Beavers.

Busy Beavers at 3rd Sandhurst

The Beavers and leaders of 3rd Sandhurst had a very busy night on Monday 6th December. Firstly, they had 2 Beavers being presented with the Chief Scouts bronze award and then 2 very busy Beavers were presented with certificates and prizes for obtaining every single badge that Beavers has to offer.

Their new assistant leader Mole was invested and then it was time to say goodbye to 3 Beavers who crossed the pond to Cubs. They will be missed by all in Beavers and we wish them well in their Cub adventure.

OK, if you have been following the South Berks Challenge ( see from bottom of the page up ) you will know the drill by now, just hover your curser over the image below to see the 1st Crowthorne Beavers funniest faces.

1st Sandhurst Beavers

4 Eager Beavers from 1st Sandhurst have been working hard to earn their Chief Scouts Bronze award. 3 are still at Beavers and one has now moved up to cubs. They were presented with their badges which they can wear with pride on both the Beaver and Cub uniform when they move up. It’s a clear sign to all that they have worked hard to gain these badges. Credit for this must go to the leadership team who provide great scouting for the beavers.

2nd Crowthorne Beavers

End of term for 2nd Crowthorne Beaver scouts saw 2 of their members being presented with their Chief Scouts bronze award.  3 Beavers are moving up to Cubs but not all Beavers are able to get the award depending on how long they have been with the colony as they have to work hard and get all 6 challenge badges.

It was also goodbye to Fox as she won’t be returning after the holidays.

District Beaver Activity Day

We woke to rain on Sunday morning which made many leaders groan but the sun soon came out and so did the smiling faces of all 90 Beavers attending Runways End camp site in Farnborough.

Beavers got to have a taste of Climbing or Archery as well as cooking dough twists, string trail and tracking, a scavenger hunt, making dinosaurs and painting their own fossils as well as mini caving, pedal car racing and playing games.

Comments like “cool” and “brilliant" were heard at various intervals from different parts of the site during the day.

After a packed lunch and well deserved sit down for the leaders, the Beavers set off again to make sure they didn’t miss one of the activities.

At the end of the afternoon they all gathered together to have a sing-song around the fire and trying to learn some funny actions which didn’t always go right. Even the leaders were having a go!

4 O’clock arrived and so did the parents much to the Beavers disappointment and the relief of the leaders.

A huge thank you to everyone that helped make this such an enjoyable day for the Beavers.

Pauline, ADC Beavers
